These Search Guidelines provide insights and examples that enable you to make the most of the Discover The Annihilated Self.
Note that all searches are case-insensitive. The results, however, always show the capitalization as used in The Annihilated Self.
Example:
A search for "discover" or "Discover" or even "disCOVER" will yield the same results.
A search for a single word lists all instances of the word in The Annihilated Self. Each instance includes the context in which the word is used,
the page number in the book on which the paragraph starts, and a link to the full paragraph.
From the full paragraph you can also view previous and next paragraphs in the same chapter.
Example:
A search for "forever" lists instances in four different paragraphs.
If the word appears multiple times in the same paragraph, each instance is shown separately with its own context.
If variations of the word appear in The Annihilated Self, the search lists all instances of each variation.
Example:
A search for "perfection" also lists instances for each of "perfect", "perfecting", and "perfection".
If the word does not appear in The Annihilated Self, the search may list instances of similar words that do appear.
Example:
A search for "intent" (not in The Annihilated Self) lists instances for "intention" and "intentions" (which are in The Annihilated Self).
Example:
A search for "centre" lists instances for each of "center", and "central".
To search for a specific word exactly as you enter it with no variations, precede the word with "+".
Example:
A search for "+perfection" lists only instances of "perfection".
Example:
A search for "+sincere" lists no results; but a search for "+sincerity" lists only instances of "sincerity".
To search for a phrase you must enter the words, including any punctuation, exactly as it occurs in The Annihilated Self. The search lists all instances of that phrase in The Annihilated Self.
Example:
A search for "rise and fall" lists all instances that contain that exact phrase.
Example:
A search for "rise, and fall" lists no results, because that exact phrase including the comma does not occur in The Annihilated Self.
If the search for a word or phrase lists too many results to be useful you can refine your search by adding a refining term preceded by "+".
Example:
A search for the word "alone" lists 12 results; a search for "alone +fear" lists a single result.
Example:
A search for the phrase "live in" lists 7 results; a search for "live in +silence" lists just two results (both in the same paragraph).
Example:
A search for the word "will" lists hundreds of results; a search for "will +open" lists just two results (in three different paragraphs).
Note that although the refining term you add may be word or a phrase, it is searched for as a precise pattern of characters.
Example:
A search for "because +free" lists five results, which include the pattern "free" within the word "freedom".
Example:
A search for "world +judgement" returns no results; but a search for "world +judgment" lists two results.
Example:
You may search for a specific word (using the initial "+") as well as a refining term (using a second "+") in the same query.
Example:
A search for "child +soul" lists three results; a search for "+child +soul" lists a single result.
